HEAT PIPE TECHNOLOGY
Isothermics
pioneered the commericial use heat pipe technology for electronic cooling, engine and lubrication cooling, waste
heat recovery systems and numerous other applications.
In
1972, the company introduced it's line of copper/water heat pipe devices for electronic cooling.
In 1974, a line of engine oil cooling products were introduced and performance tested at the Daytona track and on
highways across the United States. Other cooling applications such as high voltage transformers,
gearboxes and permafrost footings were successfully perfected.
In 1975,
heat pipe waste heat recovery products were developed for use in ventilation systems, flue gas heat recovery and other
industrial processes. By 1980, over 1500 successful heat recovery installations had been completed.

ENERGY AUDITS
Isothermics
can assist customers in planning and performing energy audits. Computer assisted energy savings calculations and project payback
estimates are available to evaluate energy recovery opportunities. Energy audit procedures and forms are available
as well as on-site assistance in performing energy audits.
Performance data on BTU's
saved, Co2 reduction, condensation and fuel savings resulting from planned heat recovery systems is available on each project
design.

HEAT PIPE TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Heat pipe development started in the
early 1970's, here a 2" diameter steel heat pipe is shown operating at 600-800 degrees F.. Note that the center
portion of the heat pipe is covered with insulation to allow the heat pipe to rise to operating temperature.
The botton evaporator region is being heated by an electric heater at approximately 1000 degrees F.. The working fluid
is being vaporized by the electric element and rapidly expands to the condenser region (top).
As the
heat pipe temperature rises it begins to radiate and temperature along the heat pipe is now visual and near isothermal. The
efficiency of heat pipes are unsurpassed in speed and heat flow making them ideal building blocks for heat exchanger design.
